Marin County, California – Home of Sausalito, CA (Golden Gate Nat. Rec. Center, Marin Headlands & Point Bonita Lighthouse) July 15, 2019

Today we headed north over the GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE to investigate the more remote areas of MARIN COUNTY, home of SAUSALITO, CALIFORNIA. We visited parts of the GOLDEN GATE NATIONAL RECREATION AREA called the MARIN HEADLANDS. The headlands are a series of military batteries lining the hills and cliffs of Marin County near the entrance to the GOLDEN GATE STRAIT. We hiked to beautiful BONITA BEACH and witnessed the impressive cliffs rising up from the beach. We then continued our hike to the amazing and very impressive POINT BONITA LIGHTHOUSE, unbelievably positioned on the top of a 95 foot cliff over the PACIFIC OCEAN, at the end of a long, rocky point. The views of the Pacific Ocean, Golden Gate Bridge, Bonita Cove, Rodeo Beach, and the gorgeous, sheer cliffs surrounding us were simply stunning!! The trail to the POINT BONITA traversed along the cliff’s edge, through ONE TUNNEL and over TWO SUSPENSION BRIDGES. The lighthouse, built in 1855, and re-positioned to this spot depicted in the pictures, was moved to its final resting spot in 1877. The lighthouse has been guiding boats through the Golden Gate Strait into San Francisco Bay since 1855. This is an amazing place to explore if you are ever in the San Francisco area!!!!!
